Ronald Wayne January, 87, of Tupelo, MS, passed away peacefully at his home on February 9, 2025, after an extended illness. Born on July 29, 1937, in Chicago, IL, to Earnest and Delilah McCrae January, Ronald lived a life rich in music, craftsmanship, and love for family.
A gifted musician, Ronald was an accomplished pianist, organist, and accordionist, bringing joy to many with his sweet melodies and distinctive voice. His passion for music was matched by his skill as a master mechanic, always eager to solve a problem or tinker with an engine. He was also an avid toy train enthusiast and a devoted animal lover, sharing a special bond with his beloved Jack Russell.
Ronald was a member of First Baptist Church of Baldwyn, where his faith and music touched the lives of many.
He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Ann Hemphill January; his children, Steven January, Ernie January, and Tammy Baker; and his stepchildren, Mark Carrico, Henry McQuatters, and Abram McQuatters, his grandchildren Missy Baker, Cheyanne January, Wade January, Ernie January and several great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Earnest January, brother-in-law, Dennis Hemphill (Elida), and his sister-in-law, Merian January.
He was preceded in death by his son, Anthony; his parents; his brother, Bob January; and his sisters, Sally Jannusch (William) and Betty Olkives (Arnie).
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Gentiva Hospice team for their exceptional and tender care. Memorial contributions may be made in Ronald’s honor to Gentiva Hospice.
A private memorial will be held at a later date. Associated Family Funeral Home of Tupelo is honored to serve the January family during this time of loss.
