Robert "Bob" Pratt Obituary

Robert "Bob" G. Pratt, 79, of Starkville, passed away on January 28, 2025, at North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice in Tupelo.

Bob was born on February 24, 1945, in Wisconsin to Donald Pratt and Ruth Nelson Pratt. A lifelong learner with a deep passion for the natural world, he earned his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin and dedicated his career to plant pathology with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Bob is survived by his beloved sons, James Pratt (Rebecca) and Phillip Pratt (Rebekah); his cherished grandchildren, Collin Miller, Kamryn Miller, Nick Pratt, Jenni Pratt, and Abigail Pratt; and his niece, Karen Ruth Jackson. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, James R. Pratt, and his sister, Margaret L. Pratt Christopherson.

On January 11, 2025, Bob was baptized into Christ, a moment of profound significance in his life.

Bob found joy in the great outdoors, a love that shaped both his career and his personal passions. He was an avid reader, especially drawn to American and WWII history, and he treasured time spent teaching his grandchildren about history and science. His love for music and family came together in moments of singing with his grandchildren, often to his favorite song, Across the Wide Missouri by The Kingston Trio. Dances with Wolves was a treasured film, one he eagerly shared with his granddaughters, seeking their thoughts and insights.

A man of simple joys, Bob loved popsicles, roller skating, ice skating, fishing, and hunting. He often dreamed of living off the land for a time with his grandson, Collin. His favorite flowers were yellow, and he deeply appreciated the weekly tradition of receiving them from his dear friend, Sherri Reedy, after their Saturday night shopping trips to Kroger—an event he fondly called the highlight of his week.

Bob’s life was one of love, curiosity, and devotion to family and his career. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
