Nickey Owen, 71, of Baldwyn, Mississippi, passed away on December 15, 2023, in Tuscumbia, Alabama. He was born on January 12, 1952, to Roy Owen and Jacqueline Capwell Owen. Nickey was a devoted husband, a loving father, a cherished brother, and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather.
Nickey is survived by his beloved wife, Charlotte Owen, his daughter Stephanie Owen Jamison (J.R. Smith), his sons Jason Owen (Kristy) and Channing Owen (Jill), and his brother, Danny Owen (Betty). His legacy continues through the lives of his 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, each a testament to the love and warmth he shared with his family.
A dedicated public servant, Nickey served in law enforcement for an impressive 38 years, demonstrating unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of his community. His impact on the lives he touched during his career as a police officer will be remembered by many.
Even in retirement, Nickey continued to contribute his skills and dedication, working part-time as a truck driver with Nunley Trucking. His strong work ethic and sense of duty remained steadfast throughout his life.
Nickey was a pillar of his community, actively involved in various organizations. He served as President of the Baldwyn Saddle Club, showcasing his passion for horses and the equestrian community. His membership in the Northeast Mississippi Horseshow Association further reflected his love for equine activities.
A man of faith, Nickey was a member of the Church of Acts, finding strength and community in his spiritual journey. He adored his family, and his love extended not only to his relatives but also to the many animals he cared for over the years.
Nickey found joy in the simple pleasures of life, enjoying activities such as showing horses, camping, and savoring his favorite cuisine—Mexican food.
Nickey was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Owen, Jacqueline Capwell Owen O'Barr, and his stepfather, Howard Lee O'Barr.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 21, 2023 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. and the funeral service will be Friday, December 22, 2023 starting at 12:00 P.M. Visitation and service will take place at Associated Family Funeral Home Chapel of Memories in Tupelo. The funeral service will be officiated by Reverend Danny Owen and Reverend Charlie Ganey, who have been a source of comfort and guidance to the family. The honored role of pallbearers will be carried out by Carson Owen, Corben Owen, Jason Jackson, Jamie Hodges, Jaylon Owen, and Tucker McCreight. Honorary pallbearers will be the truck drivers from Nunley Trucking and McGregor and Sons Trucking.
