Gerald Gayland Smith, Jr.

Gerald Gayland Smith, Jr., age 61, of Haleyville, Alabama, passed away at his home on May 25, 2025. Born on February 20, 1964, Gerald was the son of the late Gerald Smith, Sr. and Jewel Dean Harris Smith.

Gerald was a man who lived life fully and unapologetically. He loved the outdoors and could often be found fishing, hunting, or enjoying a day at the auction. He had a deep appreciation for driving trucks and the excitement of fighting chickens—hobbies that reflected his strong spirit and love of tradition. Above all, Gerald cherished his family and took great joy in playfully aggravating them, a gesture that will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Christy Lindley Smith; his sons, Scotty Bray (Melissa), Jonathan Smith (Shanley), and Dakota Smith (Emma); his siblings, Kim Bowman (John), Mitchell Smith, and Brett Smith (Donna); his beloved grandchildren, Amanda, Bradley, Taylor, Ashton, Atalie-Grace, Brooklynn, Hudson, Drake, and Walker; and two great-grandchildren who brought him much joy.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, his son William Bray, and his brother Brian Smith.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Haleyville Waldroup Freewill Baptist Church in Haleyville, Alabama. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. and continue until service time. The family ask that guest park in the parking lot to the left of the church if they are attending the funeral. 

Gerald’s legacy will live on through the stories, laughter, and memories he leaves behind. He will be deeply missed.
