David Lorenzo Slaughter, age 70, of Winfield, AL, and formerly of Columbus, MS, passed away on August 10, 2024, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Born on October 20, 1953, in South Carolina, David was the beloved son of the late James Slaughter, Jr. and Doris Helen Young Nelms.
David's life was one of deep faith and passion for music. A former Minister of Music, he was known for his devotion to spreading the message of love and faith through song. He was a proud member of the Fellowship Revival Team, with whom he traveled extensively across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, sharing his gift of music. David's love for singing, along with his talent for playing the piano and accordion, brought joy to many and left a lasting impact on all who heard him.
In addition to his musical pursuits, David was a skilled hairdresser, a profession through which he connected with many in his community.
David is survived by his wife, Gwen Slaughter; his cherished daughters, Jennifer Slaughter and Amanda Slaughter (Ricky Martinez); his devoted son, Derek Slaughter; his sister, Jan MacGregor (Scott); and his two adored grandchildren, Madison and Morgan Martinez. He was preceded in death by his father, James Slaughter, Jr.
A memorial service to celebrate David's life will be held at a later date. Associated Family Funeral Home of Tupelo is honored to assist the Slaughter family during this time of need.
David will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his love for music, and his dedication to his family. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
