Bro. Charlie Tyson Ganey, 79, passed peacefully from this life on the morning of February 19, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in New Albany, Mississippi.
He was born on September 25, 1946, in Jena, Louisiana, to Owen and Pearl Whatley Ganey. From an early age, his life was shaped by faith and service.
Bro. Ganey graduated from Tioga High School in 1964 and was raised in Ball United Pentecostal Church. There he served faithfully as Youth Leader and Assistant Pastor and was guided in the ministry by his pastor, Rev. R.W. Coody. Answering the call to preach, he devoted his life to sharing the Gospel and shepherding others in their walk with the Lord.
He evangelized for several years before founding the First United Pentecostal Church in Ridgeland, Mississippi, which continues to thrive today. Later, at the invitation of Rev. J. Frank Wilson, he became pastor of West Ingomar Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, where he faithfully served for 21 years and witnessed meaningful growth within the congregation.
In September of 1998, he founded The Church of Acts in New Albany, Mississippi. That church became a place of welcome, hope, and spiritual renewal for many. It was often said of Bro. Ganey, “He would let anyone come there,” a reflection of his belief in the words of scripture, “Whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.” His heart for people and his commitment to making the church a refuge for all were hallmarks of his ministry.
Bro. Ganey is survived by his sister, Elaine Nugent (Paul) of Hector, Arkansas; his sister-in-law, whom he lovingly referred to as his sister, Ethyl Ganey of Calfax, Louisiana; his two sons “in the Lord,” Jerry Holloway and David LaVorn; his dear friend and devoted caregiver, Sis. Sue Dorman; and his church family, whom he loved and cherished deeply.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Jerry Ganey, Lamar Ganey, Lynn Ganey, and LaVannah (Joe) Ganey; and his sister, Mavis Chapman.
While his presence here will be greatly missed, his family and friends take comfort in the promise of scripture: “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the churches he established.
Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. at The Church of Acts, 1020 County Road 326, New Albany, MS 38652. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Officiating the services will be Rev. Lynn Sizemore and Rev. Jerry Lambert. Burial will follow in Ingomar Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Church of Acts, P.O. Box 2022, New Albany, MS 38652.
Associated Family Funeral Home of Tupelo is honored to be assisting their friends.
